Our Programs

Programs of Empowerment

Soroptimists empower women and girls through education because educated women and girls are:

  • Less vulnerable to sex traffickers

  • More likely to leave a domestic violence situation and not return

  • Able to access healthcare

  • Less likely to live in poverty

  • Able to raise stronger, healthier families

Dream it, Be it : Career Fair

The Dream it, Be it Career Fair for Girls equips young women with the tools needed to pursue their educational and career aspirations, empowering them to break free from cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. This program is dedicated to fostering the strength, success, and financial independence of youth in our communities.

Geared towards 16–21-year-old girls (inclusive of those identifying as female, transgender, and non-binary) in high school or recent graduates, the initiative opens doors to alternative career paths, increased job prospects, and support to turn their dreams into reality.

Join our Career Fair, where role models from diverse non-traditional careers will share insights on their professional journeys—discussing choices, overcoming obstacles, highlighting education and career paths, and offering valuable resources. Expect motivating stories, tales of challenges conquered, and the celebration of success.

By reaching youth while they are still young, we not only help them stay healthy and safe in the short term, but we can reduce the number of women in crisis in the future. Putting them on a path will help them realize their dreams.

Registration is opening soon!

Other Projects

  • Christmas Wreath Fundraiser

Under the direction of long-time club member and expert florist, Margitta Schulz (Margitta’s Flowers in the Lonsdale Quay), the holiday wreath-making fundraiser is a favourite among members. We come together before the December holidays to have some fun and collaborate in designing beautiful wreaths. The wreathes are sold to support various initiatives focused on improving the lives of women and girls. We have raised $25,000 to date!

  • Dream Bags

Dream Bags are a gesture of hope and love to women in our community. A gently used purse is filled with much needed personal care items. The many items such as shampoo, tissues, nail care items, scarves, makeup, journals and pens, although small, are given with love to connect with women who may be in need.

  • Care Hampers

Last spring our Local Love Project worked with Howe Sound Women’s Center’s to determine specific needs, and care hampers including PJ’s, grocery gift cards, bus passes and many other items to support women seeking safety for themselves and their children were delivered to the Center.

  • Local Love

Local Love has provided warm socks and gloves to clients at a Community Outreach Program, and a Christmas package to isolated seniors. Our club has also provided personal care items distributed through North Shore Neighbourhood House to food bank clients many of whom are young, single mothers.
