By gathering data on energy use, emissions, and waste, I identify where environmental impacts are highest and determine which part of the system can be adjusted to remove or reduce these impacts, such as using ultra rapid renewable materials or improving input components that use less water. I prepare reports with this data and also assist organizations in creating sustainability strategies, which is the most fun part. My work helps companies make better, eco-friendly decisions.

RACHEL JANG
Apprentice - Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton
FMF Cape Breton

Hi, my name is Rachel, and I'm a weapons electrical apprentice at the Fleet Maintenance Facility based in Victoria. I've been working in the trade since 2020, when I was eighteen years old. I first became interested in trades in Grade 9 through one of my school elective courses, Skills Exploration, which included woodworking, autobody, and electrical. Out of all three, I enjoyed electrical the most because of the satisfaction I got from turning on the switch and seeing the light bulb light up. I’ve worked on various construction sites, including condos, commercial buildings like Walmart, and university dorms. My ultimate goal was to come to the Fleet Maintenance Facility because I’ve always wanted to work in a military facility, especially repairing navy ships. Now, after almost 1 ½ years working at FMF, I can confidently say it was the best decision I ever made!
