About Us

Women at their best, working to help other women to be their best

Soroptimist means “best for women”, and that’s what our organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. A Soroptimist is a leader in her community. She believes that by joining with other women and engaging in awareness, advocacy and action in the service of her community and society, she can make the world a better place for all. Using a three-pronged approach (awareness, advocacy and action), Soroptimists identify of women and girls in the needs of the local and global community and then establish projects that best address these specific needs.

Our History

Soroptimist International of North and West Vancouver was charted in 1950, and has grown to over 24 women, who offer their time and skills to make a difference in the lives of women and girls within our nearby communities

Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women.

Today, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement with a network of around 72,000 club members in 121 countries.

Our Mission

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

Our Vision

Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
